Module summary
This module focuses on developing insight and fashion forecasting skills to support a broad range of activities for the global fashion industry.The module begins by researching global mega trends to help you understand and contextualise their impact on the fashion industry. You will develop an understanding of consumer preferences and lifestyle choices across many different sectors and analyse the drivers for change. The second part of the module will focus on the fashion industry. You will critically appraise your lifestyle direction, develop a customer profile to construct an industry standard fashion forecast for a named brand.Objectives
Fashion Trends and Forecasting builds on theoretical grounding in fashion marketing and consumer behaviour and the contextual platform introduced at level 1.The purpose of this module is to introduce students to the research, analysis and critical thinking involved in the formulation of a focused fashion forecast. Students will use PESTEL frameworks to identify the factors outside the fashion industry which impact consumer behaviour. Mega, macro and micro trends will be defined, identified and interrogated in order to anticipate future needs for brands and consumers.
Students will develop a broad understanding of global and cultural drivers outside the fashion sector which impact the development of a brand’s strategic direction. This knowledge will inform targeted fashion trend forecast which interrogates sector macro trends in product development and related brand communications.

• Trend diffusion theories and methodologies
• Fashion business and forecasting

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
During seminar sessions students will be able to receive informal formative feedback. At week 6 in each semester students will complete a reflective self-assessment form, responding to the project and LOs. This will form the basis of a discussion on progress with the tutor.
