Module summary
Collage is one of the most contemporary ways of making and thinking. We all use “cut and paste” techniques every day of our lives. From technically skillful works to deliberately jarring juxtapositions it offers endless creative possibilities. With a focus on an open-ended process this module explores the formal and conceptual power of collage, including contrasting found images and text, to create everything from social and political commentaries to Surrealist fantasies and personal confessions. The module will focus on the exploration of lo-fi “cut and paste” processes to underpin a variety of thematic investigations with an emphasis on working through ideas with everyday materials. Objectives
To extend and develop your image-making/drawing skills through exploratory collage techniques and processes, further understanding the potential of the medium as a form of speculative visual enquiry. To develop a clear understanding and technical knowledge of collage and through trial and error.
To develop the craft of the process to a professional standard and execution.
To further extend your knowledge and referencing of artists and designers – collage techniques, processes and approaches ( contemporary and historic) and consider your practice in relation to professional context(s) and application(s).
