Module summary

The module aims to give students an understanding of the creative industries, job roles and effective teamwork. It will explore the range of skills and knowledge necessary to enhance employability. Students will be taught strategies for project planning and management, and will implement these strategies by working on a range of briefs in line with the demands and standards of professional practices. Students will be taught advanced presentation skills in relation to the design industries and professional contexts. The module will also include branding design methods and applications, motion design and design for print.

Objectives

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to;
1. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of a range of design process's in-line with industrial practice.
2. Design and execute effective communication through motion design, print and screen.
3, Explore solutions that challenge conventions in graphic design.
4. Present design solutions to meet professional standards.
5. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of branding methods and applications.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of strategy and narrative in relation to brand communications.

Skills outcomes
Students will gain skills in industry standard design tools that will be introduced along side tools for their professional creative practices.

The module will aim to cover topics in the context of industry professionalism for example… 1. Industrial design roles and teamwork 2. Ethical considerations in the graphic design industry 3. Advanced design processes 4. Project planning and time management 5. Advanced presentation skills 6. Developing / working with industrial relationships 7. Self-promotion 8. Meeting industrial standards - quality of output etc. 9. Challenging conventions in graphic design practice

Private study

Students are expected to carry out research, analyse and complete assignments during private study. Students are expected to engage with extra supporting information. This information is chosen to underpin their understanding of the assessed projects and to facilitate further investigation. The lectures provide the foundation of information needed by you to successfully complete the module, however, you will be expected to use private study to develop your understanding of the subject. Through the private study students will explore in greater depth the concepts discussed in the lectures as well as having the opportunity to consider the wider contextual aspects of the subject.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be provided with discussion-led formative feedback at key points during the module. Group critiques will allow students to share their work with their peers and the staff whilst still under development. It also allows other students to gain insights from other’s feedback. Students will also receive formal individual feedback during the semester. This will allow for focused identification of strengths and weaknesses and for tailored advice to be provided regarding further development/processes required.
