Module summary

This module provides students with the opportunity to consolidate working practices developed in Levels 1, 2 and Level 3 semester one to produce a portfolio demonstrating their ability to create a diverse range of design solutions in their chosen pathway.

Objectives

The purpose of this module is to utilise research and design development created in DESN3573 to enhance students’ skills, awareness and decision making. Students will produce independent and creative fashion design products that demonstrate a breadth and depth of outcomes. This module also provides students with the ability to produce creative and individual fashion portfolios that can be used to gain employment.

Learning outcomes
1. Critically review and appraise an established design identity and design objectives to inform a final portfolio direction.
2. Relate the creative design process to research and analysis and formulate an effective correlation between them.
3. Prepare a portfolio of work which demonstrates advanced creative abilities, professional proficiency and a design identity, that reflects contemporary fashion in the chosen field.
4. Demonstrate an advanced and broad application of creative fashion design skills in hand and digital drawing, to produce and present a professional fashion design portfolio.

Syllabus

The importance of personal, innovative, technical and creative expertise related to the chosen fashion product areas and design themes are key features of this module. Emphasis will be placed on the importance and value of developing a design portfolio. Planning, practice and evaluation will help demonstrate the student's ability to prepare a range of design and presentation solutions for a global market appropriate to their chosen pathway. This portfolio will form a tool that will help prepare students for interview.

The creative and professional value of group critiques will play an important part of this module. This will take place through presentation of design work in progress, for discussion and review by peer group and tutors.
