Syllabus

Students will be introduced to different forms of innovation in fashion (for example; innovative design, garment construction, technology, materials, ethical/political/social/environmental fashion etc.) through a series of lectures. These lectures will act as a catalyst for students to develop their own innovative ideas and concepts which they will need to support with relevant contextual and market research. Academic integrity task: Half way through the module, students will be required to submit a 500 word mini-essay on their area of research innovation. This mini-essay will test student’s writing, citation and referencing skills. The mini-essay will be submitted to ‘Turnitin’ and students will be permitted to view the Turnitin report. The module leader will go through the mini-essay and Turnitin report with students to identify best practice and advise students on areas for improvement before the final submission of the research and development journal.

Students will also have 2 x 0.5-hour tutorials throughout the semester, as well as practical classes, which will provide ongoing opportunity for formative feedback. One of the 0.5-hour tutorials will be an individual tutorial to discuss the academic integrity task.
