Pre-requisite qualifications

Applicants will normally possess a good honours degree (2.1 and above) in health science from a recognised higher education institution or certified evidence of an ability to study at level 5 (Master’s).
A minimum of 1 years experience in a healthcare environment is required.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- evaluate clinical assessment data;
- demonstrate clinical thinking in the demonstration of diagnostic reasoning;
- construct a patient-centred plan of care for clinical condition including a multidisciplinary approach;
- explain diagnostic and treatment conclusions;
- review and critically evaluate patient management plans;
- critically analyse and evaluate current evidence for the management of patient’s conditions.

Learning outcomes
On completion the student will be able to:
- apply assessment of patient conditions and consider appropriate diagnosis for treatment;
- critically analyse and apply clinical knowledge and evidence for practice;
- formulate suitable care management packages for patients;
- critically evaluate the role and function of the multi-disciplinary team with respect to management of the patient.

- Patient centred care
- Review of principles of assessment
- Clinical decision-making
- Interpreting and applying national local and international clinical evidence sources and policy for patient management
- Analysing and interpreting clinical data in order to make diagnoses and demonstrate diagnostic reasoning
- Principles of Patient Management Plans
- Developing and structuring (multidisciplinary)management plans for immediate and ongoing patient care
- Management of patients with respiratory conditions, cardiac conditions, gastrointestinal conditions, metabolic conditions, neurological conditions, genitourinary conditions
- Patient review
