Module summary

During this module, students spend a year studying Law in one of our partner universities.

Objectives

This module gives students the opportunity to:
- make substantial linguistic progress in French over a wide range of registers;
- face the linguistic, intellectual and psychological challenges of living in another country;
- acquire a deeper knowledge and appreciation of French culture;
- enhance their knowledge of French law;
- place their study of French law within the wider social and cultural context;
- experience French culture and French legal culture first hand and gained intercultural competence.

Learning outcomes
Students should be able to demonstrate that they have:
- gained a knowledge of elements of foundational private and public French law;
- gained a knowledge of further areas of French law;
- learned how to work with French legal instruments;
- gained a specialised knowledge of legal French.

Skills outcomes
Students should be able to demonstrate:
- skills of adaptability and cultural flexibility
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;
- decision making.
- improved fluency and proficiency in French


Syllabus

Students must take four courses per semester. Two of these courses must be taken with Travaux Dirigés.
One of those courses must be a course in the law of obligations. Another must be EITHER Constitutional Law OR Administrative Law.

Students are not permitted to study subjects which are substantively similar to those already taken in Leeds.

The School is committed to providing an excellent student education and experience. This will involve a variety of teaching methods and follow a blended learning model, including meaningful on-campus in-person teaching for all students. Further information regarding teaching delivery will follow.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

- Formal academic monitoring is undertaken by the host institution;
- Leeds staff keep in contact with the students while abroad, and advise on course choice, marks etc.

In-course AssessmentAssessment is carried out by the host institution, according to their rules. Students are required to pass the year abroad in order to proceed. This is defined as follows: Students must achieve a pass mark: either in 6 out of 8 courses, where both failed courses are taken without Travaux Dirigés; or in 7 out of 8 courses where the failed course was taken with Travaux Dirigés.100.00
