Module summary

This module gives students the opportunity to complete the full event management cycle from event design and planning to delivery and evaluation. There are many different components that make up a successful event and an effective event manager. This module will provide students with an understanding of the key event management principles and also how to practically apply them. Event management tests a wide range of different skills and abilities. A key element of the module is each student’s personal development through their interaction with the content, with other students and through the planning, delivery and evaluation of an event. Students will analyse and critically reflect upon their skill base and plan how best to improve identified skills. Designated a Special Skills module, this module is open to students on all degree programmes. Objectives

The module aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of event management through theoretical learning and practical application.

The module will focus on a range of event management principles and personal development. Students will show that they have acquired:
- Leadership skills in a practical setting;
- Reflective practice and insight to evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses;
- The ability to assess and critically evaluate personal skills and abilities;
- A range of key graduate level skills linked to employability.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Analyse and evaluate event management models and theories;
- Explain the systematic planning, procedures and processes required in event management;
- Apply evidence based knowledge to plan, organise and deliver an event;
- Discuss personal strengths and weaknesses and evaluate their own development through the event management process;
- Construct an action plan designed to develop personal skills and attributes linked to their future aspirations.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Weekly meeting with staff.
Bi-weekly written report showing meeting minutes, plans, progress and action points.
There will also be a range of tools used within the online learning units for this module. This will include discussion board, reflective journals and mini MCQ’s.
