Students must have some experience of working with learners in a professional or voluntary capacity.

Module summary

Are you interested in teaching, training or facilitating learning? Do you have some experience in this area (this could be in contexts such as: schools, nurseries, after-school clubs, play schemes, Brownies, swimming or other children's clubs, libraries, museums etc)? If so, this module could be for you. This module aims to develop your understanding of how specific approaches can enable learning, and to develop some of the fundamental skills required for effective teaching, with an opportunity to practise these in a micro-teaching session.

Objectives

The objectives of this module are to enable students to:
-To apply theoretical understandings of how people learn to the planning, delivery and assessment of learning, building on the knowledge and skills gained in previous Learning and Teaching Level 1 modules, including SEND.
- Develop a range of appropriate strategies for managing people, content and learning processes in a learning environment, including specific strategies to meet the needs of SEND learners
- Analyse, evaluate and demonstrate the skills needed for the planning, preparation & effective delivery and assessment of a teaching session
- Start to develop a reflective approach to their own teaching practice

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Apply planning and preparation skills for effective delivery and assessment of learning
- Demonstrate, analyse and evaluate a range of delivery approaches and teaching strategies
- Demonstrate, analyse and evaluate appropriate assessment for learning strategies
- Work effectively with appropriate curricula and summative assessment outcomes to plan learning
- Evaluate and apply differentiated strategies for teaching a range of learners, including SEND
- Reflect on own delivery and that of others in order to evaluate and develop own practice

Private study

- Key concepts such as teaching skills, lesson planning and classroom management will be introduced in lectures.
- Seminars will be used to apply theory to practice.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be monitored by the tutors throughout the module in person & by email to ensure that they are clear about requirements & have developed the knowledge & understanding to produce a successful teaching session.
