Module summary

This module aims to develop your understanding of the role of the project manager in successful delivery of a range of projects. The module provides you with an understanding of the project planning process, including management of risk, quality, leadership and lifecycle.You will engage in developing your digital skills by researching for your assignments. This includes data collection, evaluation and planning for the project plan and use of online resources in support of the quantitative element of the module.

Objectives

The aim of this module is to enable students to develop a practical understanding of project viability, planning, delivery and evaluation. The module will help students to see the problems associated with project delivery, as well as the range of skills required to manage the various stakeholder groups.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
-Assess the viability of a project based on a specific brief
-Identify the specific risks associated with a project, making recommendations for risk management
-Produce a project plan to meet the scope, time and costs associated with a specific brief
-Identify and apply measures to ensure the appropriate levels of quality for a project
-Apply appropriate quantitative models to assist with project planning and delivery

As part of this module students will develop a range of digital literacy skills. Further details are provided in the module handbook


Syllabus

- The content will cover such areas as:
- Definition - what makes up a project
- Project appraisal - is it valid in terms of payback and risk.
- Stakeholder analysis.
- Project lifecycle from conception to post-project evaluation and review.
- Project planning - Work Breakdown Structure, activity charts, Gantt charts, Critical path analysis.
- Risk analysis.
- Project closure and review.

All modules on this programme are delivered by block teaching which distributes the 22 hours of teaching over a number of days/weeks using a combination of Lectures, Seminars and Workshops
