Module summary
This module is an advanced introduction to historical and/or contemporary debates in several subfields within analytic philosophy, including metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, ethics, metaethics, philosophy of religion, and aesthetics. This module will be taught by various members of staff according to their research interests. The precise topics covered will vary from year to year.Objectives
To provide an advanced introduction to historical and/or contemporary debates in several subfields within analytic philosophy, including metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, ethics, metaethics, philosophy of religion, and aesthetics. Upon completion of the module, the student should show a good grasp of the particular debates covered, as well as a broad understanding of the concerns of each of the subfields.Learning outcomes
Detailed and critical understanding of the particular debates covered, and a broad understanding of the concerns of each of the subfields.
Skills outcomes
The module will develop the breadth of the students’ philosophical knowledge, as well as their writing, presentation, and critical thinking skills.
