ObjectivesThis module gives students the chance to understand and experience what it is like to teach physics in school. By undertaking a placement they can develop skills utilised in the teaching profession. And while not exclusively for students considering a career in teaching, it can help them decide, and advantage them in this career route.
At the end of the module, students should be able to:
- plan and organise a physics-related activity for a secondary school;
- collate information and create a well-reasoned, reflection, report and presentation.
Develop teaching materials.
Present material in a way to engage secondary school pupils.
Time management and lesson planning
We envisage that students taking this module:
- will be placed within a local secondary school/6th form college with a specific remit to help organise Physics activities
- will organise Physics-based project(s) with the aim of promoting the excitement of Physics.
The specifics for each student will be decided in consultation between the student, host school teacher and the academic staff liaison.
Due to COVID-19, teaching and assessment activities are being kept under review - see module enrolment pages for information
