Module summary
Advanced clinical cases will continue to be allocated, managed by you but supported through continued contact with Consultants, Specialists and senior dental surgeons. Your portfolio of cases will be completed and submitted for assessment.Successful completion of this and all other modules is required for the Master’s Degree (MClinDent) in Advanced General Dental Practice.Objectives
The aims of this module are:• To guide further clinical cases for management by the student, appropriate to the level of the advanced general dental practitioner, under the guidance of Consultants, Specialists and senior dental surgeons
• To provide continuing support in the management of cases chosen for care by the student in their own practice setting, if on the flexible pathway
• To complete guidance in relation to required case documentation, feedback and the culmination of the reflective log
Learning outcomes
On completion of this extended module, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate that they have clinical skills appropriate to the advanced general dental practitioner
2. Manage additional clinical cases in the clinics of the Leeds Dental Institute and in their own practices, where appropriate
3. Reflect critically and holistically on their clinical practice as an advanced dental practitioner, continuing to gather feedback for submission
4. Analyse the effectiveness of their learning and complete their personalised, reflective log

The clinical skills gained in this module are all relevant to the advanced general dental practitioner.
Syllabus
• Additional principles of the management of clinical cases, as always with focus on quality of standards and professionalism
• Further development of clinical skills appropriate to the level of the advanced general dental practitioner
• Final guidance on completion of the individual reflective log and portfolio of appropriately documented cases, in the context of the feedback received from patients and others

Private study
Students will be required to access the teaching materials and prepare for tutorials prior to the teaching session and they will also be required to prepare presentations on set subject matter to present at some of the seminars and tutorials. Additionally, private study will be spent in the formulation of the clinical portfolio of cases, a reflective log and processes to support the gathering of feedback.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Formative feedback will be provided at every clinical encounter on a 1:1 basis, in real time and as cases are discussed/managed. It will evaluate decisions made and guide future learning and skill acquisition.It will also be provided at the clinically-focussed tutorials.
A draft portfolio will be submitted and will receive feedback.
