Objectives
On successful completion of this module you will be able to:- Evaluate the pathological process in relation to normal body homeostatic processes
- Evaluate the aetiology and disease manifestation of specific diseases in the clinical setting
- Critically evaluate the pathophysiological implications and relate them to patient treatment and management.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module the student will have gained knowledge of:
- The aetiology, pathogenesis and management implications of a selection of common diseases and conditions
- Specific cellular disruptions which underpin the development of selected diseases and conditions
- The impact of specific pathological processes on normal physiology
- Specific treatment approaches and clinical guidelines associated with the management of selected diseases and conditions.
Syllabus
Overview of basic body homeostasis; aetiology of disease; principles of pathological process. Clinical manifestation of diseases in relation to: bone diseases; neoplasms; cardiovascular diseases; respiratory diseases; genitor-urinary diseases; gastro-intestinal diseases. Management of patient's treatment in relation to pathology of specific body systems.
