Module summary

This module is the first of four Reflective Practitioner modules and together they constitute the core of experiential and practice learning within the MA Psychotherapy and Counselling programme. This module runs during Semester 1. In this module the focus will be on developing your counselling skills so that you and we can be confident of your ability to work with clients, and building a reflective space to help you develop greater self-awareness and intersubjective awareness. For skills practice, you will be working in small groups taking the roles of counsellor, client and observer. These practice sessions are video-recorded so that you can reflect on the session in the light of feedback from your peers and tutors. During this module there will be several 'reflective space' sessions, which will provide opportunities to reflect on aspects of your own history and experience through group activities and experiential exercises. They will be in groups half the size of your whole year group and facilitated by tutors. There will also be seminars on topics related to beginning your counselling practice, such as supervision, the BACP Ethical Framework, contracting and record keeping.
