Module summary

The core objectives of the module are to give you the study skills you need to succeed at university, and the employment skills you need to compete for jobs and placements. You will be equipped with knowledge and skills for reading, researching, analysing and writing at university level.

Objectives

This module aims to equip students to make the most of the learning opportunities in their programme of study. Students will develop strategies and techniques for managing their own learning at degree level through the development of academic, professional and personal skills.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. produce an academic essay with an appropriate structure
2. Locate, select and reference appropriate academic and business source materials
3. Assemble coherent arguments and develop critical thinking skills
4. Reflect on, and evidence skills and knowledge developed personally, professionally and academically
5. Identify areas for further development and put in place their own Action Plan

Skills outcomes
Developing adaptability, creativity, collaboration and identity and wellbeing as part of the Digital Literacy Framework

Private study

It is hoped that students will continue discussion after/outside lectures and implement suggestions given in terms of completion of their portfolio, and engaging in extra-curricular activities, such as joining a society or finding work experience during their free time. There will be a sound academic basis to all lectures and tasks, such as finding, reading and critiquing sources, and writing, editing and reflecting on their coursework will contribute to the majority of their private study time

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Through workshops and submission of drafts. The portfolio will be developed in stages so as to enable students to work on their portfolio submission
