Module summary

In this module, students will apply and extend relevant elements of the taught-course module(s) to a single exploration geophysical project, with credible industrial or research outcomes. It is typically 15 weeks of full-time work, leading to a Dissertation and other forms of assessment emulating industry and academic practice.

Objectives

To complete a project dissertation and associated deliverables on an exploration geophysics topic.

Learning outcomes
Investigate an original research topic within the general field of Exploration Geophysics;
Critique established practice in the field, and develop a research programme to extend it.
Defend research approaches using various dissemination techniques, including thesis, oral seminar and poster.

Syllabus

Projects can be collaborative with industry or university-based: case studies or research-aligned investigations; and field or laboratory-based. The project lasts for four months on a subject area to be agreed with supervisors. A dissertation, seminar, and poster board are final outcomes of the project.
