Module summary

The module aims to enable the practitioner to critically examine and develop their practice in relation to local and profession specific standards of diagnostic imaging.

Objectives

The principal aim of this module is to provide a structure to enable student to bring together self-knowledge, expertise at work and formal knowledge, in order to foster and develop the highest standards of professional health care and imaging practice for individuals, families and/or communities.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an ability to critically appraise current literature/research related to all aspect of professional Diagnostic Imaging practice and related topics, incorporating evidence based practice and life-long learning (CAHPR Research Practitioner's Framework, 2019; ScoR, 2016)
- Demonstrate in-depth specialist knowledge of complex communication and be able to critically evaluate the emotional impact of the imaging examination on the client, patient, and carers
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the professional and organisational principles that underpin diagnostic imaging practice and critically discuss the changing national and local health care needs of client, patient, carers and organisations
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the principles of image interpretation and/or report writing and critically evaluate how utilising this knowledge will impact on your future practice and patient management
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the role and responsibility of the practitioner in all ethical and legal issues related to Diagnostic Imaging
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the limitations and compromises associated with autonomy and decision making in Diagnostic Imaging
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the critical importance of cultivating good working relationships with a wide range of healthcare professional teams and analyse the effectiveness of your role in MDT

Skills outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to
- critically appraise the information and communication needs of healthcare professionals and healthcare service users & carers;
- synthesise complex information and present it in a clear, concise and accessible manner in a variety of professional contexts
- critically examine the changing role of the practitioner brought about by practice development in diagnostic imaging

Private study to include: literature searches, seminar and assessment preparation, independent supporting investigation & critical evaluation of literature for summative assessment

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Peer and tutor feedback also given in the debate, assessment preparation seminars/quizzes. Students will submit a 200 word plan of their proposed assignment topic with tutor feedback.
