Objectives

1. To develop an understanding of the concepts associated with projects and project management;
2. To develop an understanding of the relationships between projects, their environments, and
stakeholders;
3. To promote competence in using basic project management methods, artefacts, and processes
relevant to stakeholder engagement, planning, and risk management (e.g., stakeholder salience
analysis, work breakdown structure, risk probability-impact matrix).
4. To promote competence in teamworking, ethical conduct and inclusivity approaches.

Learning outcomes
Applying basic project management methods, artefacts, and processes relevant to stakeholder
engagement, planning, and risk management (e.g., stakeholder salience analysis, work breakdown
structure, risk probability-impact matrix) appropriately whilst recognising their limitations.
Applying risk management methods, artefacts, and processes to identify, evaluate and mitigate
threats and opportunities associated with a particular project.
Recognising the multiple environments and the different organisational structures in which projects
function (internal and external), and the environmental, societal, and economic impact of the
solutions projects deliver.
Functioning effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader of a team, and evaluating
effectiveness of own and team performance in applying problem setting and problem-solving skills
for the successful planning and delivery of engineering projects.
Recognising ethical concerns associated with the planning and delivery of engineering projects and
making reasoned ethical choices informed by the professional codes of conduct.

Private study

Students will be expected to study the relevant resources, evaluate the cases associated with the module and prepare for the examinatons in their own time. These activities are estimated to require 52 hours.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Student progress is monitored during the tutorial sessions. Students will be expected to take an active part in the tutorials by way of presenting their thoughts/ideas and solutions in response to set case study tasks.
