Module summary

In this module, students will explore different global concepts and innovations in fashion imagery and photography and use this research (both visual and written) to inform the development and creation of concepts for a series of styled fashion photographs. The module content will explore what constitutes the creation of a contemporary fashion image for photography through a critical interrogation of the variety of media in which they are published. Students will be encouraged to question and challenge ideas and think innovatively about perspectives, which influence fashion photography, including issues of gender, globalisation and inclusivity. They will also need to consider the international, social and commercial parameters of their ideas, and identify a suitable market level, and commercial platform for their concepts to be communicated.

Objectives

This module aims to further intellectual enquiry, research skills and creative thinking and develop an understanding of fashion imagery and photography by taking the student on a contextual journey of exploration. The notion of what constitutes the creation of a contemporary fashion image for photography will be explored, through a critical interrogation of the variety of media in which they are published. It aims to provide an understanding of the methods used to create and communicate global fashion images, concepts and messages through the photographic lens.
