Module summary

This module provides you with a broad understanding of the nature, purpose and structure of different types of organisations and the tools used to analyse the impact on organisations brought about by changes in the internal, external and global environment.

Objectives

The objectives of this module are to:
1. Enable students to identify the nature and purposes of different types of organisations.
2. Encourage students to develop an understanding of the theories, concepts and techniques related to the organisational environment.
3. Allow students to apply recognised business analysis tools to analyse the impact of changes in the internal, external and global environment

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Describe the nature, purpose and legal structure of a range of organisations.
2. Explain the inter-relationship between organisational structure, culture and the organisational environment.
3. Describe the extent to which an organisation meets the objectives of different stakeholders.
4. Apply recognised business analysis tools to evaluate the impact of changes in the internal, external and global environment within which organisations operate.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Through tutorials, monitoring of student contributions, formative feedback and staged submission of coursework. Drafts can be submitted in line with tutor deadlines. Peer feedback on in-class activities and online discussion.

The essay provides an opportunity for Foundation year students to submit a (low stakes) piece or work and receive summative feedback on a range of academic skills at a very early stage of the course. It is purposefully weighted at 30% to allow for the development of academic skills through the module.
