Module summary
This module will allow you to develop an understanding of the process of planning your own research. You will examine the various elements of the research process and identify the ethical considerations when developing a piece of individual research. You will develop your research skills which are relevant to any future research projects, or your professional careers or further studies in higher educationObjectives
The aims of the module are to provide students with an opportunity to:-Examine the key aspects of the research process within a business management context
-Demonstrate critical analysis skills
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate the literature in a specific topic area.
2. Apply appropriate research design and methods to a research topic.
3. Identify the ethical implications of the proposed research.
4. Develop a research proposal
Skills outcomes
As part of this module students will develop a range of digital literacy skills. Further details are provided in the module handbook.
Syllabus
The content will cover such areas as:
Formulating and clarifying the research question/problem/topic
How to undertake and construct a systematic critical literature review
Understanding research philosophies
The importance of ethical research
Data types and variables (Independent, dependent, and confounding) Hypothesis
Formulating the research design and deciding the research methodology
Collecting primary quantitative/Qualitative data
How to critique your own proposal
Analysing quantitative/Qualitative data and reporting findings
