Objectives

The aim of the module is to develop understanding of organisational behaviour in theory and practice. Managerial and psychological perspectives are used to examine organisational functioning and effects. The module aims to encourage a multi-level and contextualised appreciation of organisations by attending to ‘macro’ organisational issues and ‘micro’ processes of individual and team behaviour. These aims contribute to the MSc Management programme by developing insight into how organisations operate from a people management perspective.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to critically assess:
- theory and research within the discipline of organisational behaviour
- processes and relations in and around organisations that explain contemporary organisational functioning and effectiveness
- key ideas and challenges in the area of behaviour in organisations

Skills outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

- apply organisational behaviour theories and research to improve attitudes and behaviours in organisations

Transferable skills
- communicate ideas effectively, both written and orally
- conduct organisational change projects
- engage in and influence creative problem solving


Syllabus

The module covers core topics within the field of organisational behaviour, including job design, teamworking, motivation, leadership, employee well-being, and organisational culture.
