Pre-requisite qualifications

This module is not approved as a discovery module

Objectives

This module gives students the opportunity to:
- demonstrate their ability to cope with a significant change in their environment and adapt to a new culture;
- broaden their understanding and knowledge of the relevant subjects of study that are undertaken at the host institutions;
- gain a deeper understanding of the country in which they are studying and therefore gain a deeper understanding of International Development issues as they occur in a particular country in the Global South; and
- develop transferable skills in openness and sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and culture.

Syllabus

Candidates will spend a semester abroad as part of their programme. The study will be arranged with the host institution and it will normally involve studying modules relevant to your degree, that do not duplicate those taken in Leeds.

Assessment

The assessment for the semester abroad is done in-country according to the prevailing rules, regulations and standards of the partner university. The marks given for individual modules whilst overseas are converted into equivalent University of Leeds marks through conversion charts which are available for view in the POLIS Code of Practice on Assessments and in the BA Student Handbook. All module marks obtained whilst on the semester abroad are combined into a single mark for the full 60 credits represented by this module. Students should therefore be advised that this module counts towards both their degree at Leeds and their final degree classification.
