Module summary
This module is for those who have mastered lower-intermediate Japanese. It aims to further develop knowledge and skills in the use and understanding of written and spoken materials on the basis of grammar mastered in EAST1280 Intermediate Japanese (1) or equivalent.Objectives
To continue Japanese language training, building on lower-intermediate level modules (or equivalent) so as to provide a solid grounding in Japanese grammar and further development of speaking and writing skills.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module you will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Read and write in hiragana and katakana; recognise and use essential kanji characters appropriately.
2. Communicate more fluently in structured situations, demonstrating improved accuracy in grammar, phonology, and vocabulary, including use of honorific language.
3. Read and respond to texts on a variety of non-specialist subjects
4. Translation skills which identify differences in cultural context for precise translation.

On successful completion of the module you will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
5. Confident use of romaji and/or kana as an input method for Japanese in digital contexts
6. Develop cross-cultural communication skills and an awareness of diverse Japanese cultural contexts
