Module summary

This module explores inclusive education in relation to various educational contexts and stakeholders. You will consider how particular groups of learners can become marginalised, categorised and stereotyped and the implications of this for education and broader society. You will examine the relationship between special educational needs and disability, and evaluate current strategies which aim to promote more inclusive practices.

Objectives

- To develop the ability to critically analyse and understand the complexities of inclusive education

- To enable the exploration of inclusive education in formal and informal settings.

- To enable the exploration of factors which might marginalise learners and hinder inclusion.

- To develop understanding of the relationships between special educational needs, disability, marginalisation, and inclusion.

- To enable the exploration of inclusive practices and strategies

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, you should be able to:

1. Critically consider inclusive education principles and issues, special education needs and disability, and marginalisation related to teaching and learning in both formal and informal settings

2. Critically consider challenges of inclusive education and challenges faced by learners with diverse needs

3. Evaluate strategies to foster more inclusive practice

Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:

1. The ability to search for, evaluate, and use pertinant information sources to support your argument and draw informed conclusions

2. The ability to develop and structure a coherent argument that combines relevant issues, concerns, and approaches of inclusive education for learners with diverse needs.
