Module summary

The Dissertation module offers you the opportunity to undertake substantial independent research on a topic that captivates your interest within the educational sphere. Your journey will commence with the formulation of a research question and evolve through the stages of conducting a robust literature review, designing and implementing a research strategy, analyzing data, and articulating your findings with academic precision.

Objectives

In completing this module you will:
1. Enhance your ability to conduct independent, original research, and develop advanced research skills.
2. Improve your ability to critically analyze existing literature and research findings in the field.
3. Gain proficiency in selecting and applying appropriate research methodologies and tools, collect, analyse and intepret data.
4. Improve your ability to understand and apply ethical considerations in research.
5. Enhance skills in academic writing and presenting complex ideas clearly.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Independently crafted and explored research questions in relation to Education issues.
2. Conducted a comprehensive literature review, critically examining relevant academic works and theoretical constructs.
3. Employed suitable research methodologies to collect and critically evaluate data.
4. Constructed a well-reasoned argument that integrates your findings with established literature and theoretical considerations.
5. Compiled a significant written dissertation that meets scholarly criteria in terms of ethics, organisation, and citation.
6. Reflected on the significance of your research for educational theory, practice, and policymaking.

Skills Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. The ability to recognize and express knowledge and understanding and how it relates to personal experience and to demonstrate learning and growth from the experience.
2. The ability to weigh up different arguments and perspectives, using supporting evidence to form opinions, arguments, theories and ideas.
