Objectives
To give students a good basic knowledge of the operation of the human speech mechanism and the sounds produced by the mechanism; to give a practical introduction to phonology.Syllabus
The organs of speech; vocoid and contoid classification; voice, tone and intonation; combinatory phonetics; phoneme theory.

Weekly lecture and practical
Methods of assessment
2 hour written paper and an oral examination at end of semester 1.
