Programme specification:
The programme will speak to the needs of prospective students by approaching the study of film and cinema from a range of perspectives that draw on the expertise of staff from across the large and diverse Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures at the University of Leeds. It combines the theory and history of cinema with the study of the industry and craft of filmmaking. The programme will equip you with the tools of film theory and history and develop critical awareness of concrete aspects of the making, distribution and reception of films. It will cultivate skills and expertise in the design and implementation of independent projects and develop critical and creative thinking skills and intellectual agility. It will offer a route to postgraduate research, including doctoral study, as well as open prospects for employment in the film, media and creative sectors, and it will enhance capacity for creative self-employment. Graduates will also be well-placed to develop careers in education in a context of growing demand for specialist film and media educators in many parts of the world.
