Programme specification:
The School of Healthcare has offered the part-time MSc Advanced Practice since 2009. Major structural changes to reflect the changing needs of the local health service were validated in 2013. However at both approval events the programme time scale was set at 3 to 5 years with the belief that part time students would study no more than 60 credits in any academic year. More recently the School has been approached by a number of service providers asking if students could follow an accelerated "fast track" route to meet workforce need. Students would remain part-time, but they would study more than 60 credits in the academic year. This "fast track" route makes no additional demand on the School as students would continue to access modules from the PG timetable. Students will in the vast majority of cases be supernumerary in practice for the duration of the accelerated programme. Student support via programme leader, academic supervisors, personal tutor etc will be as for all students on programme. All module pre and co requisites will be unchanged.
It is anticipated that the vast majority of future students will remain on the 3 to 5 year part time route, but the additional of the “fast track” route will ensure that the School remains responsive to service need.
The programme will provide students with:
- Access to interprofessional learning.
- Access to a broad range of modules which will allow students to mould their programme of study to their own professional needs and the needs of the supporting organisation.
- A programme in which work based and work related learning is emphasised.
- Flexibility within the programme structure to maximise the opportunities provided by their personal case load within their work environment
- Assessment methods which are linked to the students' practice and work requirements.
Programme Aims:
At the end of the programme students should have achieved the criteria for the award of MSc in Advanced Practice and should have achieved the identified core competencies in that they are;
- Providing Effective Healthcare.
- Improving the Quality of Health Outcomes
- Demonstrating knowledge and skills in evaluation and research
- Developing Self and Others
- Leading and Developing Practice
- Working Across Professional and Organisational Boundaries
- Showing Innovation and Changing Practice
