Programme specification:

The programme will:
Provide the knowledge and analytical skills in Dental Materials to enable the applicant to keep pace with the rapidly evolving changes appearing in digital workflows and regenerative approaches across much of dentistry. Traditional teaching is out of date and out of step with these developments. Undertaking this MSc will provide an exciting opportunity to help you shape this rapidly growing shift in contemporary dentistry.
Enable you to gain a deep understanding and mastery of modern dental materials with a focus on those designed to work with additive/subtractive manufacturing or regenerative approaches with a particular view to potential clinical applicability and pull-through to product, including aspects of commercialisation which will be taught through the Leeds University Business School (LUBS). You will develop critical thinking and analytical skills to enable you to understand what questions should be asked of materials when deciding whether to adopt new workflows.
Following a comprehensive introduction to research methodology, statistics and ethics, enable you to undertake a substantial 90 credit research project module which will allow you to explore in depth an area of particular interest.
Give you access to fully equipped research laboratories (including 3D printers, CAD-CAM, SEM, mechanical testing, rheology, microCT, cell culture, etc). Example projects might include assessing a material or manufacturing process in terms of physical or optical properties, a novel use for 3D printing or 3D milling or looking at the interactions between cells/bacteria and materials. We can offer many ideas to help guide you on a project title.
