Entry requirements:
A bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons) in civil engineering or a related engineering, science or mathematical discipline where relevant subject areas have been studied.
For candidates with at least one years relevant experience, bachelor degrees with a 2:2 may be considered.
Applications from professionally qualified and experienced candidates will also be considered.

Programme specification:
This programme offers the opportunity to acquire in-depth specialist knowledge on how the different physical elements that constitute land transport infrastructure are designed, built, and maintained, with an emphasis on bridges, roads and highways, and tunnels.
On completion of this programme, the student will have developed a sophisticated understanding of the concepts and techniques at the forefront of design, construction, maintenance and operation of land transport infrastructure. Students will learn about the most advanced aspects of designing and building concrete and metallic bridges, upgrading and maintaining roads and highways, and tunnel construction. They will acquire specialist knowledge on the latest technological developments in transport infrastructure engineering, including the applications of advanced materials like ultra-high performance concrete, and the possibilities of cutting-edge sensing techniques and robotics for the monitoring and repair of infrastructure.
With an emphasis on the construction and maintenance stages and the "how-is-it-made" approach as an articulating principle, this MSc will enable the student to develop a holistic view of the development of land transport infrastructure, regarded by the construction industry as a key asset in the engineers they need to recruit.
At the same time they develop a profound understanding of the entire design-construction-operation cycle, they will become proficient users of the most advanced tools that can be used to effectively manage the delivery of challenging projects.
Different construction processes and techniques will be explored in detailed, and used as a platform to investigate how they affect (and are affected by) the design process, the selection of alternatives and the implications for the entire service life. The knowledge and skills developed through this MSc will increase their employability prospects to work in the development of, for example, smart highways, the new generation of bridges, or high-speed railways.
The successful completion of the degree programme allows candidates with the appropriate first-degree qualifications and after gaining the required professional experience, to seek professional accreditation for the award of Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Engineering Council through the Institution of Civil Engineers. The Learning outcomes and technical content covered in the modules will equip the students with a wide range of competencies that are in line with the Accreditation of Higher Education Programmes (AHEP) 4 required for the MSc Type I.
