Programme specification:
This is an existing hitherto successful programme of study that attracts a diverse group of students. These include disabled students, students from non-conventional academic backgrounds and professionals working in social policy and the caring professions from within and without the UK.
This is a part time scheme that allows students to work for the award of either: a Post-Graduate Diploma in Disability Studies over a one-year period OR, an MA in Disability Studies over two years.
The course provides students with an in depth analytical understanding of changing perceptions of disability in terms of definitions, theory, policy, practice and research. Comprehensive research training is a key feature of the programme and all students are required to produce an original piece of work: either a disability project for the Diploma and a Dissertation for the MA. The scheme is specifically designed for academics and professionals who require a rigorous analytical training in disability studies issues and research.
