Entry requirements:

Applications will be considered from people with one of the following:
- non-graduates who have successfully completed three years of a UK medical degree, are normally ranked in the top 50% of the Year 3 cohort, and wish to take the MRes course as an intercalated programme.
- normally a first class or second class, first division degree in a science allied with medicine, including for example anatomy, biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or biomedical science.
- MBChB, BChD or BVMS from a UK or EU University
- graduates with a second class, second division science degree normally with appropriate work experience (two years or more) in a health subject area.

An overall score of 7.0 on IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with at least 6.0 in writing and no other skill below 6.5; from a TOEFL paper based test the requirement is a minimum score of 600, with 4.5 in the Test of Written English (TWE); from a TOEFL computer based test the requirement is a minimum score of 250, with 4.5 TWE; from a TOEFL Internet based test the requirement is a minimum score of 100, with 25 in the "Writing Skills" score.

Programme specification:

Programme Aims
At the end of the MRes programme students should demonstrate theoretical and applied knowledge of research skills in medicine. This encompasses evaluating published research, formulation of new hypotheses to explore experimental evidence of the causes of and consequences of disease and conducting research in the laboratory or with patients.

Distinctiveness of the programme
The programme will:
- Provide students with research skills and projects in excellent facilities at advanced level.
- Explore the process of scientific publication and the importance of dissemination of research knowledge.
- Provide medical students with the opportunity of intercalating at master's level.
