School of Mechanical Engineering
Examination board through which the programme will be considered:
School of Mechanical Engineering
Programme specification:
The programme will offer quality and comprehensive training in aerospace engineering.
The course is designed to ensure that the graduates possess the key knowledge and competences for a career in the aerospace industry. The course will include a flight course where practical flight experience is provided, as well as a number of externally delivered talks and seminars (as is the case for the current undergraduate MEng course in Aerospace Engineering). The course will fall under the remit of the Aerospace Engineering Industrial Advisory Board, who will provide advice on running the course and its content. A number of external speakers have already given talks to the undergraduate course, including speakers from Rolls-Royce, EADS-Innovation Works, BAE Systems and EADS-Astrium. The programme will be accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (see accompanying documentation for information about other courses accredited by the society).
Depending on the market favourability of the course a further course titled Aerospace Engineering with Design Optimisation could also be developed with the addition of one new module. This would reflect the research expertise in the School of Mechanical Engineering and strengthen industrial links. However, to reduce the risk of starting additional programmes the high demand programme proposed in this document will be introduced first.
