Total credits: 180
Entry requirements:
BSc(Hons) at least 2ii classification or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline
School/Unit responsible for the parenting of students and programme:
Centre for Molecular Nanoscience (CMNS)
Examination board through which the programme will be considered:
The inter-university Nanoscale Science and Technology Examination Committee will deal with this programme, along with MSc Nanoscale Science & Technology, MSc Nanomaterials for Nanoengineering and MSc Bionanotechnology.
Programme specification:
The programme will build on the success of the Nanoscale Science and Technology MSc course which was set up 3 years ago, and, along with that course and the proposed Bio-nanotechnology MSc, will comprise a portfolio of inter-related postgraduate training in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The Nanoelectronics programme will have particular appeal to graduates of electronic and mechanical engineering courses, and thus represents an expansion of our target student market. Expansion of the nanotechnology Masters activity will consolidate Leeds/Sheffield's position as the leading provider in this field.
The programme will be delivered jointly by Leeds and Sheffield Universities, using the administrative model previously established and successfully demonstrated for the Nanoscale Science and Technology programme. The dedicated Learning and Teaching and Examination Committees convened for that programme will, in future, be responsible for handling all 3 programmes in the new nanotechnology portfolio.
Students will be based at either one or other site. Whilst all students will be expected to attend all lectures, the fact that students will be distanced from some module leaders outside lecture hours means that remote learning support is necessary. This is provided by a combination of paper based and computer based resources, including web-based course material and supplementary notes.
