Programme specification:

The Applied Health Suite gives students the opportunity to develop a particular health interest whilst ensuring they are well grounded in transferrable skills such as learning, teaching and research. Specific skills which students will develop include critical appraisal, literature searching and research methods. Students will enhance their scholarship through academic writing and by presenting their research in an assessed mini-conference at the end of the academic year.

The leadership programme will be applicable to all medical and dental students, as leadership skills are important in almost every area of clinical practice. The programme will give the opportunity for students to learn about the theories of leadership as well help them to obtain the skills required to put these theories into practice during their clinical placement – which is likely to be within a CCG, acute trust, local authority, or Public Health England. Students will learn the key theoretical concepts of enterprise, entrepreneurship, and strategic management and will learn how these apply to organisations and industry.
