Entry requirements:

- Normally 3 A-Levels or equivalent, at grades AAA, including mathematics or physics.
- GCSEs or equivalent in English, mathematics and science are required at grade C or above if not offered at A or AS level.
- Alternative qualifications (eg IB, Foundation Year, Scottish Highers) at a comparable level will be considered.

Programme specification:

At the end of the programme students should have:
- the necessary core knowledge, abilities and skills to pursue a career in airlines, airports or associated aviation industries, or to undertake postgraduate research in an aviation related subject;
- received theoretical and practical flight training towards the Private Pilot's Licence;
- an understanding of the fundamental principles of flight and propulsion;
- an understanding of aircraft design, systems and performance;
- an understanding of the aviation industry, with respect to its organisation, control and legal framework;
- studied core subjects related to the JAR requirements for flight crew licensing.

The programme will:
- provide an academic qualification which will allow graduates to compete effectively for training places to Commercial Pilot Licence level and ultimately for senior positions as airline pilots;
- provide graduates with a wide range of knowledge, abilities and skills of value to the aviation industry;
- provide all facilities and training necessary for students to obtain the CAA/JAR Private Pilot's Licence;
- include module teaching from external experts in their fields, such as Chief Flying Instructors and practising commercial airline pilots, as well as guest speakers;
- include a training period during the first summer vacation at Advanced Flight Training, Sherburn Aerodrome and completion of training on a daily basis during the second and third years;
- include team based final year project work, using advanced equipment, often associated with external organisations.
