Programme specification:

The programme will aim to:
- introduce students to the major branches of mathematics and biology;
- meet the needs of students with varied mathematical and scientific backgrounds and with different aspirations;
- enable students to appreciate the coherence and logical structure of mathematics, and its applicability in biological sciences;
- impart an awareness of the values of research and scholarship and in mathematics and biological sciences;
- prepare students to work in fields where specific and broadly based advanced mathematical knowledge is required;
- enable students to embark on research in some area of mathematical biology, bioinformatics and genetics, quantitative biology and medicine.

Students must enrol on exactly 120 or 125 credits, including at least 100 credits at level 3, with at least 40 credits of level 3 Mathematics, and at least 40 credits of level 3 Biology modules. EPIB3036 and EDUC3060 count as Mathematics modules for this purpose.
