Programme specification:

This proposal for a BSc in Economics and Finance is intended to replace the current BSc in Business and Financial Economics. While the existing programme has been a successful component of the School’s undergraduate Economics portfolio since 1998 there are several potential gains from the proposed repositioning:
- The programme will provide a broadly equal balance of Economics and Finance so that students gain substantive knowledge and understanding of both fields. It will be based more strongly than the current programme on the complementary leading expertise that exists in the Economics Division and the Accounting and Finance Division.
- The programme title is simpler and indicates a clearer and more coherent set of aims than the existing programme.
- The programme will fit more consistently alongside other interdisciplinary programmes within the School’s portfolio, such as BSc Economics and Management and BSc International Business and Economics.
- The programme should appeal to home/EU students and also have a significantly stronger appeal to International students than the current programme. It is therefore expected to improve the balance between home/EU and international students in both Divisions.
- It will maintain the high level of quantitative skills of the existing programme and continue to include a compulsory dissertation.
- It should provide some professional exemptions not available from the current programme.
