5. Academic standards of attainment
Bachelors Degree
Typical attainment - Typical holders of the honours bachelors degrees will have demonstrated:
- The ability to execute and analyse critically the results of an experiment or investigation and draw valid conclusions. Students should able to evaluate the level of uncertainty in their results and compare these results with expected outcomes, theoretical predications or with published data. They should be able to evaluate the significance of their results in this context.
- Effective use of appropriate IT packages/systems for the analysis of data and the retrieval of appropriate information.
- An ability in numerical manipulation and the ability to present and interpret information graphically.
- An ability to communicate scientific information. In particular students should be able to produce clear and accurate scientific reports.
- An ability to manage their own learning and to make use of appropriate texts, research-based materials or to her learning resources.
- A sound familiarity with laboratory apparatus and techniques if on experimental programmes.
Programme specification:
At present there are limited intercalated programmes available within the UK with a focus on diagnostic medical imaging. The Intercalated BSc in Medical Imaging offered here at the University of Leeds will give medical students an introduction to diagnostic medical imaging alongside the teaching of standard academic skills.
The course aims to cover all aspects of medical imaging, starting from the basic physics involved in different modalities, health and safety considerations, image formation, pattern recognition and applications within the field of Radiology.
The research project runs throughout the academic year alongside the formal teaching giving the students the opportunity to accomplish a substantial piece of research.
The BSc (Hons) Clinical Sciences (Medical Imaging) is at this stage only offered to students wishing to intercalate. The award will be made to candidates who study and pass 120 level 3 credits. The degree is classified using the usual University of Leeds classification system for honours degree except that no calculation of Year 2 performance is included.
