Upper second class degree in law or equivalent (including suitably qualified non-law graduates).

The language requirement will be the standard one for entry to a taught postgraduate programme in the Law School.

Programme specification:

The distinctiveness of the programme lies in its coherent provision of postgraduate level study in the field of Corporate Law, which is an area of growing importance in commerce locally, nationally and internationally. Corporations are used across the globe as the vehicles for carrying on business. It is anticipated that we would be able to recruit internationally.

Students on this programme will develop a specialised and detailed knowledge of the law concerning national and international aspects of corporate law.

Successful completion of this module will ensure that students have the necessary research skills in corporate law to work independently and effectively on their research projects (in particular in the context of the dissertation).

PROGRAMME AIMS:
At the end of the programme students should be able to:
- Understand and apply complex principles and rules provided for in various areas of Corporate Law to novel problems and real-world and hypothetical scenarios;
- Critically evaluate the legal rules, regulations, theories and underlying policies relative to Corporate Law;
- Undertake independent research and construct legal argument in the appropriate form; and
- Work independently to prescribed timescales, including contributing in seminar discussions to the critical evaluation of issues relating to Corporate Law and those fields that are relevant to Corporate Law.

Any student who has not studied Company Law, or who has done so, but not in a common law jurisdiction, must select Corporate Law (LAW 5550M) as an option in Semester One.
