Entry requirements:

Good first degree - 2:1 or above or overseas equivalent;
An IELTS Band Score of 6.5, with 7.0 preferred and with not less than 6.0 in any skill area or
Internet Based TOEFL 94 overall (with not less than 21 in Listening, 23 in Reading, 23 in Speaking and 24 in Writing)

Applicants with an IELTS score of 6.0 may be eligible for entry provided they successfully complete the University’s InterComm Pre-sessional English Language course.

Programme specification:

The programme is distinctive in that offers students knowledge and understanding of the media industries along the following set of dimensions:
- Sociocultural: The relationship between media industries and the social and cultural impacts of the media.
- Historical: The historical development of the media, including the industrialisation and commodification of cultural production
- Political: Efforts by governments (international, national and regional) to influence the size, structure and behaviour of media industries, through legislation, regulation and subsidy; how media industries seek to affect policy.
- Economic: Questions of ownership and control, including processes of concentration, conglomeration and integration, and the centrality of rights.
- Organisational: Historical tensions between creativity and commerce, and how media industries attempt to manage these tensions.
- Ethical: How processes of industrialisation bear on how people live their lives in modern societies.

In addition, the programme is distinctive in that it is offered by an Institute that prioritises research in this area, through its Media Industries Research Centre (MIRC).
