Entry requirements:

Good first degree, standard University IELTS requirements for PGs.

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide evidence of their English language proficiency. Recognized tests are IELTS with a required overall score of 6.5, with no element below 6.0, or TOEFL equivalent score.

Programme specification:

On completion of the programme, students will be able to:

- Demonstrate knowledge of the applications of public relations across a range of social contexts and by a range of organisations;

- Situate and critique the occupation of PR in light of its role as a cultural intermediary and its place within the media, creative and cultural industries;

- Understand and critique public relations as a socio-cultural phenomenon, rather than an organisational function, through the application of critical and sociocultural analyses to public relations as an occupation and a practice;

- Demonstrate a critical awareness of the relationships between public relations, other communications industries (advertising, journalism, marketing) and wider social systems (politics, education, cultural and creative industries);

- Produce evidence of a critical engagement with the effects of public relations in the context of globalisation;

- Demonstrate an appreciation of the complexity of public relations effects, given its use by a wide range of organisations in the public sphere;

- Demonstrate the ability to present work to a high academic standard, to work collaboratively and to respond to demanding briefs to strict deadlines;

- Understand and demonstrate the value of developing communication, research and critical analytical skills.
