Programme specification:
This specialised MA programme is suitable for experienced teachers and officials from international contexts with current or prospective management responsibilities in schools, and for governors, ministry officials and students of development.
By the end of this programme students should be able to:
- articulate an understanding and critical appreciation of the theory of managing educational institutions
- reflect critically on the management of educational institutions in their own country and contexts
- appreciate the significance and worth of making informed policies and plans
- be aware of basic differences in educational management in different countries.
The modules are taught in groups of participants from many different countries, and abundant use is made of this resource of varied and different experiences.
Practical examples are analysed and experiential methods used to provide opportunities for the learning of skills as well as the consideration of theories.
Much comparative work is undertaken drawing particularly on case-studies from different educational contexts, including those of the student cohort.
