Entry requirements:

In order to ensure adequate professional experience we propose that all those accepted onto the course should normally have:
- an appropriate first degree
- a minimum of two years' relevant post-graduate professional experience
- have basic ICT skills (to be able to use email, word processors and the WWW) and to be able to use computers routinely in their academic work
- ability to demonstrate independent facility in the use of ICT with appropriate technical support.

As part of the application procedure, candidates will be asked to write a personal statement of 1,500-2,000 words, regarding their aims in applying for the course and how they expect their studies to be of relevance in their own professional context.

This task has the secondary role of identifying likely needs in academic reading and writing, and can be used to gauge the applicant's ICT skills.

During the application process, they will be engaged in email and WWW interactions, using web-cams where appropriate, to ensure that they are regular and reliable users.

Programme specification:

The course focuses on the academic study of Information and Communications Technology and Education, which forms a basis for critical evaluation of research and development in the field. It also provides opportunities to analyse the practical applications of ICT within a range of educational settings.

The aim of the programme is to examine and evaluate the relationship between ICT and Education by integrating a range of theoretical approaches with participants' practical and professional experience.

By the end of this programme participants should be able to:
- appreciate critically the significance of ICT for education, teaching and learning
- relate the design and evaluation of ICT-based materials to a range of approaches to learning
- understand the nature and practical implications of e-Learning in a range of educational setting and practices.

The degree aims to contribute to the intellectual and professional development of all those who are currently using Information and Communications Technology in educational settings. This includes teachers and trainers across all subjects and phases in formal education, user support staff, educational software developers, librarians and managerial staff.

All those accepted onto the course should have a minimum of two years' relevant post-qualification experience. Participants are expected to have basic IT skills (to be able to use web cams, email, word processors and the WWW and to be able to use computers routinely in their academic work for the programme.

The programme is an academic study of the relationship between ICT and education, and is not a training course in ICT skills. Although there are practical elements within the programme, they are used to illustrate the theoretical issues which make up the programme. Applicants who need courses in basic ICT skills should undertake these before they start the programme.
