Programme specification:

The new MA in Global Urban Justice:
-responds directly to the challenges for social, spatial and environmental justice posed by the global urban age
-streamlines existing MA teaching into single, coherent and exciting new inter-disciplinary programme at cutting edge of School’s two critical human geography research clusters

The programme will offer students:
-‘Real-world’ experiences through dedicated placements with established external partners, in the third sector (voluntary, charity, think tanks, NGOs) organizations.
-Introduction to the core concepts and debates around urban justice and injustice across the global north and south with genuine broad coverage.
-Interdisciplinary and critical engagement with contemporary urbanization in the global north and south to create more just, equitable and sustainable urban futures.
-Advanced training in qualitative, quantitative and action research methods offering students an excellent pathway to employment or doctoral study (ESRC 1+3 recognised).

Graduates of the programme will be trained to be able to work across theoretical and practice based divides in order to positively intervene in a range of pressing urban challenges to achieve social, spatial and environmental justice. The MA will enable graduates to pursue wide ranging employment as
-research analysts for think-tanks;
-advocacy leaders in NGOs and campaign groups,
-senior positions in international consultancies.
Graduates will be able to work in a number of roles including
-researchers,
-consultants,
-policy makers,
-project managers,
-development planners,
-entrepreneurs and so on.
