Entry requirements:
Normally 2.1 or above in a first degree (BA or equivalent) in Religious Studies, Development Studies or another humanities or social science subject.
Other subjects will be considered, where there is evidence of relevant experience, background or private study in the field of Religious Studies and / or Development .

Programme specification:
In general the programme will:
- provide postgraduate students with an opportunity to study at an advanced level the engagement between Religious Studies and Global Development;
- enable students to develop expertise and skills within the varied professional disciplines of Global Development;
- foster critical reflection on the socio-cultural and politico dimensions of religion in terms of its implications for development and human flourishing.
In Religious Studies, the programme will offer opportunities to study:
- The operation of those aspects of religion in relation to development theory and action.
- The nature of religion and religions as a resource, obstacle and critical participant in development.
- Particular forms of co-operation between religious communities, religious aid agencies and communities in development.
In Development Studies, the programme aims to:
- provide an introduction to the field of development studies per se taking an interdisciplinary approach;
- focus on theories of development, substantive issues of development and underdevelopment, taking into consideration both internal and external factors;
- provide an overview of alternative theoretical approaches in the analysis of developing countries and examines their policy implications.
Like the Religion and Public life programme, the Religious Studies and Global Development programme is interdisciplinary- sociological, historical, anthropological, and political- and will expose students to a range of methods appropriate to researching Religious Studies and Development Studies.
