Entry requirements:

Students must have the following:
1. Normally a BHSc / BSc (at least 2:1) honours health related degree from a recognised higher education institution in an appropriate subject eg BSc (Hons.) in Radiography, Nursing, Midwifery, Clinical Physiology or Medicine. Applicants with a 2:2 degree and 1 year's clinical experience also meet the criteria.

2. Have secured a suitable clinical placement (where appropriate) and:
- Employment with, or secondment to, a diagnostic imaging department or with access to diagnostic imaging facilities, approved by the University of Leeds
- Identification of a suitable clinical mentor within this department
- Employer's agreement to undertake the course and provide adequate time and facilities to meet the learning outcomes of the programme.
- Satisfactory interview & references.

Students may access the Post Graduate Diploma if they have already obtained a relevant (breast imaging, medical ultrasound or diagnostic imaging) Post Graduate Certificate / related academic credit from the University of Leeds within the last five years and have maintained their clinical practice and CPD in the interim.

Students may access the MSc in Medical Ultrasound if they have already obtained a relevant (breast imaging, medical ultrasound or diagnostic imaging) Post Graduate Certificate / Diploma / related academic credit from the University of Leeds within the last five years and have maintained their clinical practice and CPD in the interim.

Opportunities for accreditation of prior certificated learning (APCL) and or accreditation of prior experiential learning (APEL) are available.

Applicants who possess the College of Radiographers' Certificate of Competence in Mammography / Postgraduate Award in Mammographic Practice AND a minimum of 1 year (WTE) clinical experience within the last 5 years may be granted exemption from attendance for some aspects of the Mammography Technique module but will be required to undertake the appropriate range of course assessments to provide evidence of continuing competence to practice and of academic performance at Masters level.

Programme specification:

The Post Graduate Diagnostic Imaging programmes will deliver a high quality, research-led educational experience in order to develop highly competent practitioners who contribute positively to healthcare service provision.
This programme is multidisciplinary and will appeal to a range of healthcare professionals including those practising as radiographers, clinical physiologists, mammographers, sonographers, medical doctors, nurses, clinical scientists. It is aimed at local and national students who wish to develop their academic and clinical skills, in-depth knowledge and understanding, research and professional practice in specialist areas in diagnostic imaging such as Medical Ultrasound and Breast Imaging.
