Programme specification:

The programme will:
- form part of Leeds' excellent range of choices for students offered alongside the University's portfolio of Joint Honours programmes with Russian;
- offer an excellent variety of aspects of Russian and Slavonic culture;
- foster deep language learning and the development of active language skills;
- enable the study of subjects ranging from the more traditional literature and cultural history courses to such innovative and topical courses, praised by recent external examiners, as 'The Encounter between Orthodoxy and Islam', Post-Communist / Postmodernist Identities' and 'Russian Media';
- require students to spend a year in Moscow on a specially designed course, so as to develop their linguistic competence, cultural awareness and broaden their horizons;
- enable the students to develop important transferable skills for today's graduate market, whilst tailoring the content of the programme to their own interests;
- promote and develop critical and analytical skills, foster in the student the ability to direct their own learning and work independently.

In Level 1 students must study 120-125 credits. Candidates will be required to pass a minimum of 100 credits, including those for which a pass is required for progression, in order to qualify for this award and/or progress to the compulsory Year Abroad.

As part of your induction to academic work, and in order to provide you with additional support in key areas of your programme, students are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to undertake the following 5-credit Study Skills module. This module resides above the required 120 credits students take in Level 1 and as such it is not compulsory, but it draws together key guidance that augments provision elsewhere.

In Level 2 students must study 120 credits.

In order to be eligible for an Honours degree, students must meet the normal Rules for Award by passing all modules which are designated to be passed for award or progression and by passing the required number of credits at each level as specified in the Curricular Regulations (at least 200 credits at level 2 or above, of which at least 100 should be at level 3).

In Level 3 students must study 120 credits. Finalists may only take level 1 modules which are listed as discovery skills modules (skd) and only to the value of 20 credits.
